Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
I am assigned to the Large Capital Delivery department and a line manager. Within this department, I have day to day tasks such as organising/attending meetings, filing documentation and sending/receiving documentation to and from contractors and other members of the team. I also have opportunities to go out on site and observe the network/ work being undertaken.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
In terms of the programme overall, I have been very much enjoying the programme. I feel very much supported and If I have an issue, I know who to speak too.
There were a few issues during our time at college which did affect my enjoyment of the programme. These issues were sorted though following discussions with the relevant parties.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
In my role, I feel I have improved my existing skills in addition to learning new ones.
In terms of my existing skills, one area of great improvement is my time keeping skills as well as my communication skills with colleagues both in person and online as well.
In terms of new skills developed, one area of where I have developed my skills is in the use of company wide systems. These are very important to the day to day running of my role so it was very worthwhile learning how to use them effectively.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, I feel the organisation/ structure of the programme is very good.
We have a clear understanding of who we are reporting too and if the are away, who we would need to report too. In addition, our time at Loughborough was very organised as we had a clear understanding of what modules we were undertaking and we were given a clear understanding of deadlines for certain deliverables.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel I receive great support from my employer. We have regular review sessions and also opportunities to speak up if we are having problems/ issues. In addition, the employer can also arrange for us to do placements in other departments to help build up knowledge and get a better understanding of the network and how it operates.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The support from the training provider I felt has been very 50/50. At the college, there are a wide range of resources such as the library as well as being able to speak to the college lecturers after class.
In contrast, outside of college, there were times where it was difficult to get hold of our lecturers/ assessors. This was discussed in reviews and this was improved upon.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Personally I feel that my qualification does reference to my role. An example of this is that when out on site, it allows me to have a better understanding of how the network operates and the part that each piece of equipment plays. Additionally, when it comes to drawings, it has given me a greater understanding of what information is being presented.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are extra-curricular activities available at work. For example, there are social events setup by members of the team which I attend. These can include events such as meals out and Christmas Get together's. From what I have seen from my area, this is the main source of extra-curricular activites.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend SSE to a friend because there a wide range of roles (office based, site based etc) so there is something for everyone.
In addition, the wide range of apprenticeship/ graduate courses allow you to get a better understanding of the role while earning at the same time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
For anyone looking to apply for a role at SSE, my tip/ advice would be to not be afraid to ask questions.
The work environment is very inviting and in order to get a better understanding of your role, it is best to ask questions and get stuck in with tasks.
