Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Highways/Streets engineer, working on a variety of schemes including large schemes such as HS2 and smaller local schemes on behalf of Active Travel England. Day to day role includes producing CAD models in the 3 dimensional space, technical drawing production, utility design more specifically.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
No the fault of Mott MacDonald in any way shape or form, but the apprenticeship is super stressful and extremely high intensity with a lot of time committed to work, as well as university and also professional accreditation

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes learnt many new technical skills, already had background CAD knowledge but has been significantly improved across a variety of programs for multiple new applications.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
From a work point of view, very clearly outlined what is expected of you and support is always available to help you better yourself. Less so from a university perspective. That solely lies on my training provider specifically and may not represent the apprenticeship as a whole
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As much support as required. Plenty of learning opportunities and facility to take additional study leave during busy study periods. Technical learning opportunities always available, even from communicating with colleagues
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
An satisfactory amount but not extraordinary in any way. Lectures often aren't structured very well and have trouble with understanding learning principles. Some lecturers do go the extra mile however and provide plenty of support, often eating into their own downtime to provide knowledge or communication channels
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
My work is very different from what I study. If anything, I would say CAD skills and writing skills gained at work have helped me perform better in my study.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes a range throughout the year. Sports day a personal favourite, teams of people from offices around the world battling for gold
