As a contract manager my roles includes; surveying jobs, pricing jobs, sending quotes to clients, managing operatives, setting jobs up if I win the work and paying operatives wages on a weekly basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed my programme a lot and developed lots of new skills and improved my knowledge during my trainee programme with Bagnalls. I have received lots of support from work colleagues and managers throughout the business across different branches at the company.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to measure internally and externally, improved my computer skills, gained knowledge about the painting trade, learnt how to manage people.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is a well structured 3 year course with clear levels indicated throughout the course. Assessments are carried out in 6 month intervals. Although the assessments are carried out every 6 months, if you are developing quicker than where you are expected to be through the 3 year course duration you can complete the course quicker.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

For the duration of the trainee programme I received lots of support from Bagnalls and was offered lots of guidance on how to progress and learn while on the job. The team I worked with at my branch provided lots of support and were always willing to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Bagnalls have Learning Development Advisors who focus on helping the development of staff who are undertaking courses and trainee programmes. They offer support throughout the year and set up events such as a yearly management trainee conference as well as days out to events such as Painting conventions. These trips are helpful as it gives you more of a insight into the business and helps bring the trainees together with other people who are carrying out the same work as them at different branches.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel through carrying out the assessments it helps you build up your knowledge on different sectors of the business early on and can help prepare you for when they become relevant to your job role. As well as this the assessments help you practice your measuring skills and how you interact with clients.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Bagnalls arrange a yearly management trainee conference for all trainees at their head office. This event gets the trainees from all their different branches together and gives them a further insight into the business. As well as this Bagnalls organise day trips to events such as painting conventions.

I would recommend Bagnalls to a friend as the company have provided me lots of support and a path to a future career. Because of this, I would recommend them to a friend as the company has the ability to offer progression to anyone who is interested in finding a role for themselves at Bagnalls.

I applied for my role online by looking for potential surveying jobs. If you search for a job role online which Bagnalls are currently offering, then follow the steps on the website and apply. If you cannot find a role you are interested in at the company when looking, call the office of the branch you are looking to join and ask if they have any upcoming job roles available.
