Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Serving customers, working on a till, putting stock out, taking in deliveries, processing sales and returns, keeping the store looking good for customers at all times, completing legal checks, dealing with complaints, wasting out of code products, communicating with colleagues in order to get jobs done on time, organising shifts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme, I enjoy learning how this big constantly moving machine operates. I enjoy all the new skills and behaviours you have to have to be successful and progress in this industry. I enjoy helping our customers have a good experience and I enjoy the job here.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I've learnt more about communication and setting myself good but realistic goals in life, how to deal with the different types of customers and colleagues and how to adapt my communication style to get results. Gained confidence within my role, I can deal with complaints better than before.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It's very well structured! From the start I've known exactly what I'll be doing for the entire programme. Everything is managed through an online portal and the programme is broken down into set modules that you work your way through as and when you get the time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer has supported me in joining the programme and starting this apprenticeship. But with how tight hours are in this Industry and how busy the store can get day to day, I have to say my manager hasn't been able to make time for me to complete modules.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider has been mostly brilliant, from making sure I understand everything, to providing a tablet device to complete work on. Sometimes things can take awhile to get organised and face to face meetings can be rare, mostly done remotely via a Teams meeting and then just working independently.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like this qualification has/will help me massively in my role. It has increased my confidence and gave me the courage to pursue different roles and further my career. I can talk with customers and colleagues better than before and have learnt a whole host of new skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a few extra-curricular activities. We have a social club at my store which organises various things to do outside of work time, such as quiz nights and parties. More professionally, the company has various networks you can join to connect with other colleagues that are in similar circumstances.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because they are a very good company to work for. The complete benefits package that they offer is very strong, the training is all available for you, they have a set/clear policy for how things are done, so you always know whats expected of you and where you stand.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc?
Be confident in yourself. Know that it is a hard Industry to work in. Be good at following clear instructions for how to do something. Be a good communicator. Obviously be good with the public and customers, try to help them if possible but stand up for yourself when needed.
