Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I manage engineering operations, overseeing daily maintenance, supporting production, and ensuring minimal downtime. I interact with internal teams like production, quality, and planning, and occasionally with external contractors or suppliers. Responsibilities include team coordination, shift planning, and project delivery, such as equipment upgrades or continuous improvement initiatives.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning new things, especially through the college sessions where I’ve gained the most valuable tools and insights. The apprenticeship side involves applying that learning in real work situations the challenge is documenting it clearly, so I can reference and reflect on the progress I’ve made in my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting Level 5, I’ve been promoted to Engineering Manager. I’ve become more confident in managing conflict and now use structured tools to plan team activities effectively. I’m also learning the value of delegation, as it empowers the team, supports their growth, and builds trust while improving overall performance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The college part is well-structured, with a consistent schedule during school term times, which makes it easier to plan around. The apprenticeship side requires self-management to find time for writing up work, which can be challenging due to the demands of a managerial role and the fast-paced nature of daily responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’ve received excellent support from Laleham throughout my studies. I was given the opportunity to step in as Engineering Manager, which provided valuable real-world experience. This not only gave me a deeper understanding of the role but also improved the quality of my coursework by applying learning to practical situations.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
College part 100% support, the apprenticeship side we have monthly reviews to see were we are with our work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The college part of the qualification is extremely valuable, as it teaches key aspects of being a manager. The apprenticeship side feels more like a paperwork exercise capturing your work in writing. While it does encourage reflection on past situations, it doesn't directly improve day-to-day performance in the same way.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have golf days for everyone at Laleham, we also arrange yearly trip to London for engineering team with past and present team members.
