Engineering Manager Review

I manage engineering operations, overseeing daily maintenance, supporting production, and ensuring minimal downtime. I interact with internal teams like production, quality, and planning, and occasionally with external contractors or suppliers. Responsibilities include team coordination, shift planning, and project delivery, such as equipment upgrades or continuous improvement initiatives.

The college part is well-structured, with a consistent schedule during school term times, which makes it easier to plan around. The apprenticeship side requires self-management to find time for writing up work, which can be challenging due to the demands of a managerial role and the fast-paced nature of daily responsibilities.

I’ve received excellent support from Laleham throughout my studies. I was given the opportunity to step in as Engineering Manager, which provided valuable real-world experience. The college part of the qualification is extremely valuable, as it teaches key aspects of being a manager. The apprenticeship side feels more like a paperwork exercise capturing your work in writing. While it does encourage reflection on past situations, it doesn't directly improve day-to-day performance in the same way.
