Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

changing, updating and creating models for electrical substations around the UK from the engineers i work with, depending on new information about the site requests from the clients and potential risks that have been discovered. I commutating with other BIM technicians to help if i have issues with the task i am completing at the time usually on Revit and or Auto CAD.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i enjoy the creative side of creating models in the software and seeing every thing i do and everyone does coming together to form the overall mode.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting my apprenticeship i have learnt to use new software and gained experience on Revit and AutoCAD. I have also been introduced to how Civil engineering companies work and communicate internally. I have been on an external Revit essentials course where i went over the basics and short cuts on Revit.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

i think that in work the help i receive is very useful and always fell as if i can reach out to coliges and my training provider for any assistance concerning my apprenticeship or work. in college i feel as if the work give out could be better structed and more engaging.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

i receive lots of support from my employer, any time i feel i am struggling with a task or any issues with my college or even later on in my carrier with what my options are i am able to reach out and ask for any assistance
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
i speak to my training provider more evey 12 weeks for an informal catch up and 1 weeks for a formal catch up, so i speak to her evey 6 weeks. when i do speak with her she is always able to answer any questions i have about my apprenticeship or whats next for me and lets me know whether i need to be completeing certain tasks to keep my up to date.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

i think once i have my qualification i will be more recognised and able to progress further in my carrier and more on to a University qualification from my employer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

every 3 months the team goes out for a meal which is nice to speak to everyone out side of work hours and have an informal conversation not about work getting to know everyone better. There is also work shops that are for the apprentices that work for the company where i am able to speak to others in a simialar situation as me and see how they are getting on.

my apprenticeship has started my carrier off positively and i feel i am going to be able to progress even further than i though i would when i started. everyone i work with has been very helpful towards me and now i feel that i am in a good situation for the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
listen to what your colleges have to say especially when they are trying to help you and give you tips and don't be afraid to ask for help because everyone will be wanting to help you out when your new.
