Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role has varied during my time at Mott MacDonald, however, I am currently working within a highway design team on High Speed 2 (HS2) Phase 1 Project, where I produce 3D Models, Drawings, Logs, Registers, Check Records etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I believe my programme is good, my colleagues are kind and approachable in both work and university. I enjoy a mix of attending university and the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed numerous skills during my time here. This includes, software skills such as AutoCAD, Bentley OpenRoads Designer and many more. I have also developed softer skills such as communication and time management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say it is very well organised. I am in contact or know how to contact everyone involved in my programme. The structure is good, it is challanging enough for me but not so much that I am overwhelmed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve enough support, there are colleagues in the office that have been through the programme I am currently on that I am in regular contact with. In terms of university, I am also able to take study leave when required to revision/etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
LJMU deliver lectures/seminars to a high level and give time for dicussions or questions. Although, I have not needed to yet, I am aware of how to book meetings with lectureres when required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I have not had to use much of my learning in the workplace yet. Soft skills such as report writing may help me in my role but in terms of knowledge, very little so far. However, I do now have a wider understanding of civil engineering.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Mott MacDonald, hosts many extra curricular events and we are always encouraged to attend. To date, I have attended a few social events after work, including a game of football with colleagues.

Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Mott MacDonald is an international company that takes on a range of work so the opporunites to devlop are endless. From my experience, work colleagues are easy to get along with and work alongside.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
It is a really good company, once your foot is in the door, there is a lot of room to move teams/divisions so you are not tied down to one particular role. It enables you to develop in an area you want. The hours are flexible and adgile working is implemented so you can adopt a good work/life balance.
