My day to day usually consists of CAD, report writing and engineering calculations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the programme. My employer have been excellent in allowing me to balance my work and studies. The university side of the programme can become intensive and stressful at times however Mott MacDonald provide excellent support.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am constantly learning new skills at my workplace, they have a focus on maintaining continued professional development. I have developed technical and knowledge skills including proficiency with industry standard CAD software and application of engineering standards.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

In my case, university study is condensed to a single day, meaning these days can be long and exhaustive and lectures/tutorials can become 2+ hours long. Requirements to pass the programme are laid out clearly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provides excellent support including an easily accessible support network and time for training and university work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Tripartite meetings are undertaken quarterly with the university to ensure I am working on track. Support is accessible when needed, however the majority of my support is provided by my employer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

As Civil Engineering is a broad subject area, not every module has been directly applicable to my work. However, I have been able to gain an excellent understanding of other disciplines and some modules have developed my ability in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have a sports and social team who are always providing activities for anyone to attend. We have an annual Christmas party and we also host a sports day.

Mott MacDonald have been excellent for helping me along my programme. They have provided support and are understanding of the stress that an apprenticeship can cause. The work is also engaging and the team I work with are friendly and helpful.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
Take time to research the company and understand what we do as we cover a lot of sectors across the globe.
