Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am a trainee solicitor at the BBC. This involves moving across the business every 6 months and getting to work with a variety of teams. My role is to provide legal support to the business. This largely involves working with the lawyers to help with research, drafting and other tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
My programme is challenging, but I definitely enjoy it. I get to work with people that I can learn so much from and it is a very supportive environment to be a part of.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed lots of skills. I have been exposed to work I had never even previously considered and it has been great to see how a business as large as the BBC operates.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is structured in terms of how long I will spend in each team, which team I will go to next etc. However, the level of structure does vary from team-to-team largely based on the availability of members of the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support varies from team to team. On the whole, I feel very well supported and would be comfortable raising any issues with colleagues across the business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of support! They are flexible and understand the difficulties of balancing work and study.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification is vital to my role - I cannot progress without it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a variety of professional networks and socials to get involved in. You have to be proactive but the options are there if you want to make the most.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The BBC is a great place to work. People really care about the output and have a passion for the BBC's role. The work is also interesting, varied and intellectually stimulating (the hallmarks of job satisfaction in my opinion).
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
You need to show a passion for the BBC whether that be the importance of impartiality, an enjoyment of its output or an interest in the role of the BBC in the future.
