Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I help produce the two BBC Introducing shows in in the Midlands. I help choose the music that goes on the shows, write scripts, answer the phones for live shows, log the music for royalties and record content and interviews.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the on-the-job learning and the BBC Academy training. The training from Bauer
Academy isn't great but there isn't too much of it

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, so many! Audio editing, interview skills, setting up microphones, script writing, teamwork, to name just a few.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I'd say it's pretty well organised
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A lot! I have a chronic illness and everyone I work with has been really supportive and understanding. I had a meeting with an accessibility professional when I started and they helped me with my Access To Work application. They also have a great sick leave policy. My team is really supportive and have given me loads of opportunities (it's not just making tea!)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The learning support team at Bauer Academy is great. Sometimes I find the main trainers a bit disorganised/difficult to get in touch with but overall they're quite helpful
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The training from Bauer Academy isn't very useful, I don't think it's helped at all. The BBC Academy training is great though
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There aren't many official events, but the team's nice and sometimes people go for drinks after work

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I've found it a great place to work and you can learn a lot very quickly
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
If you're applying for a Production role, make sure you're familiar with the show you're going to be working on! I work on the two BBC Introducing shows in the Midlands and I was the only one of the interviewees who'd actually listened to the local shows (rather than just the national ones). My interviewers said it made a massive difference to my application
