Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work on a music radio show called Across the Line on BBC Radio Ulster. I sort a lot of the visual end of things e.g. social media pages, setting up cameras and lighting for artists that we get in session. I also do some of the admin and music reporting which is really important so that people are informed of their songs being played as well as making sure who we play are getting paid too!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I honestly really enjoy my job. As much of a cliche it is to say, everyday really is different! I enjoy the music end of things quite a lot and always have loved being part of the music industry, but I am surprised at how much I enjoy the radio aspect of working here too! It's really broadened my skill set.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I've learnt lots of new skills. I already had some experience with editing audio but I have learnt a new software which ended up being a lot easier to use and I am getting great experience with this as I use it weekly.
I have learnt how to use cameras and how to set them up if we have guests in the show. This has been very fun as I have been given the chance to play about with my ideas and see which one looks best. Alongside camera work, I have been developing my skills in the lighting scene. This is something which I've noticed is really important when it comes to shooting videos for content so it's also been a great learning experience!

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the programme I am in is really well structured. I feel like there are a lot of people that I can turn to in my support system if needs be. Plus there are lots of people in work that are more than happy to help out if you are stuck with anything so I think its organised very well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have scheduled meetings as catch-ups with my employer, as well as other mentors who reach out often to check in. It's really well run!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider is great! They are always offering guidance and help which keeps me on track when it comes to hitting my goals! It's always nice to have someone who checks in to make sure you are hitting the correct targets.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My training provider helps a lot with keeping me on top of my goals in the apprenticeship. We have scheduled meetings to discuss where I am currently at in my role, and furthermore where I am looking to take it next. This allows me to keep on my game within my job as I am constantly thinking of things to do which will allow me to receive these goals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There aren't many that I am aware of. However I have been a part of a few networking events which have been fun, alongside my work do before the Christmas period. These events have allowed me to mingle and meet new people who I might not have met in my work environment.

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BBC is a great company to work for. Even though the staff number is really big, you still always find a group of people that you can talk to, whether that is to do with work or just to have a chat with. The values here at BBC are really well respected and taken quite seriously which furthermore makes it a great place to work for!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
If you are applying for BBC, my best advice is honestly to just be yourself! It's easy to slip into the way of thinking 'Oh they'll like it if I say this'. But they are looking to see what you are like as a person and what skills they can help you develop.
