Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Depending on my placement, I take part in different newsgathering for the different platforms. I work as a journalist to research and write articles and produce and edit packages for digital and television. I also support with planning and idea generation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, the highlight being the teams I work in within the office.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a lot about better editing and writing for online.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I organise my own time, and where I need to rely on a schedule organised from above we aren't usually given the timings until the day we arrive on our residential which makes it difficult to plan, especially with travel and family commitments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager is fantastic at supporting me and suggesting extra people I can talk to or shadow
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The lectures and lecturers are really good, and do their best to support you. Some of the training around editing could be better as we had to teach ourselves.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification allows me to better understand ideas like media law in my everyday work, which is really valuable.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Some visits to bars every few months, but nothing regularly scheduled.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's an excellent opportunity to develop skills in an environment with such a vast and historic skillset across different platforms.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
I'd say to reach out and make connections in the industry, in and out of the BBC, and really talk to them about developing your skillset to be able to tackle all platforms effectively and understand audiences thoroughly.
