Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Carrying out work such as:
Procurement
Payments
Measures
Managing Subcontractors
Liaising with the site team
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have been given the opportunity to develop as a QS throughout my time at VINCI, learning a lot over the past 3/4 years from the team around me. By being given responsibilities on projects, the programme has been engaging and rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Experiences include procurement of subcontract packages in excess of £1m in value, which has involved drafting tender enquiries, analysing tenders, negotiating tender prices, producing tender reports and drafting Subcontracts. Developed problem solving skills throughout, communication and overall management. Knowledge on construction technology has developed considerably while on site

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme could be structured better in regards to the Degree apprenticeship side. There seems to be repetitive tasks through Off the Job Training and Meeting minutes with University. Workload increases as you become more competent, Dissertation is then introduced in your final year, alongside recording for your RICS. I envision this becoming harder to manage as i enter my final year. More support should be introduced from University.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is received from my employer. Whether this be regarding University side or Work on site. Study days have been granted this year to ensure i can keep on top of my assignments. Guidance and help is always offered in the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Support is offered when i have had concerns regarding modules - I have been helped/guided by the head of DA promptly. This has occurred however through, at times, poor delivery of classes. It is not always made clear what the module leaders require for the assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
There are links from University to the workplace, aiding my understanding in the role of a Quantity Surveyor. However the workplace experience is invaluable. With the majority of time being on site, I believe my On site work has benefited my University work more so.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
CSR activities are arranged by Vinci where the site team have come together to help the local community. I have also been involved in other events like football tournaments. Sponsored runs and the like are also encouraged.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes
Why?
Vinci allow you to develop as a Quantity Surveyor, and progress your career. A good culture and team to help you find your way in the construction industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
Always ask questions to help your understanding. Go on site as much as possible to learn about the processes that occur. Get stuck in with the work, don't shy away from interactions between the site team, client or subcontractors. Have confidence in yourself and be proactive in your work.
