Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a civil engineering apprentice within the highways division where i complete technical drawings using OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD softwares. I currently work on HS2 completing a variety of drawings of new proposed highways and accesses, showing pavement details, kerb layouts, vehicle restraint systems, traffic signs and road markings and others.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed my programme as I have learnt how our everday use infrastructure are designed and maintained. I have always felt engaged both at work and with the training provider as there was always something new to learn.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, i have learnt how to use different softwares to produce drawings and edit models. I have also learnt a wide range of civil engineering knowledge both from the training provider and from my day to day work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is structured well, although there could be improvements to help with a push towards professional accrediation and the End Point Assessment as it can be tough to find the time to write up reports ticking off the attributes. Possibly through workshops such as report writing tips, how to best evidence attributes.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I get all the support I need and there are systems in place if I need that extra support so the support system is very good.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Overall, it is good but only some of the lecturers would want to go the extra mile to help my understanding of topics.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I have definitely improved my knowledge of overall civil engineering but as I am in the highways division i would say most of my knowlegde has come from my employer as I only did one module (in my first year) on transport related topics.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes we have sports and social events, networking events within the office.
