Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as both a store assistant and deputy manager, I am responsible for the daily running of the shop floor as well as working stock and ensuring the checkout process runs correctly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship, I like learning alongside my work, and enjoy the challenge learning new skills provide.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve learnt a lot of new skills with Aldi, like rotating stock, working correctly and using tills and SCOs. I also have learnt a lot about safe keeping and cash handling, as well as learning new people skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
From the learning aspect it is very well structured, it is easy to follow and see where you need to be at each point of your apprenticeship timescale. I do think there needs to improve in the actual workplace, where coaches need better training on the portfolio evidence we require and help to complete that. It can also be a challenge to get the allocated hours of work time when starting, as they tend to intrude on your protected time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I am supported when I need help, however my managers do not ask me about my progress or where I am in terms of work. They have assumed I am okay, which thankfully I feel confident in my work however I owuld appreciate some extra time to go through my work with them more often.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of help and support from lifetime, my tutors have been excellent and I’ve really enjoyed working with them. U have regular meetings, email interactions and work marked by them and I feel very confident in the work I have been completing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think it’s set me up for success my teaching me important soft skills. It’s knowledge that I’ve been able to apply to my job role and has helped build my confidence massively over the past few months. I’ve enjoyed having access to the resource center too, as it has videos that are useful for life outside of Aldi too
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not that I’m aware of, we don’t tend to interact much outside of work. People are very friendly here but there isn’t much of a rapport outside of work

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s an excellent job for people who enjoy being on the go and not getting bored. They pay well, respect their workers and appreciate that people need a work/life balance. The tasks we complete are done as a team, and so you never feel alone if you are struggling. Everyone likes to help each other out and we have fun while we complete our shifts too
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
Don’t be put off by the application process or interviews. It seems daunting but it’s definitely achievable and you can let your personality shine. They look for people who want to actively learn and work, so definitely let people know you don’t shy away from completing a task. I’d also love to make people more aware of the apprenticeships that Aldi offer, as I didn’t know it existed until I was searching for a career change.
