Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Design Engineer in the MRI healthcare industry, my role involves designing solutions to enhance both the business and the product. My daily tasks primarily consist of using CAD software to design parts, translating these designs into tangible products. Additionally, I engage with colleagues, suppliers, and customers to ensure optimal outcomes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship, as it allows me to see the real-world impact of my work. Engaging with colleagues and customers, building professional relationships, and contributing to meaningful projects make my role fulfilling and rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have significantly developed my CAD design skills, software proficiency, and knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. I have also honed my communication, presentation, and project management skills, aligning my work with business goals and objectives.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well-organised, balancing academic learning with hands-on industry experience. While managing degree work alongside company projects can be challenging, dedication and time management ensure a strong portfolio upon completion.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer provides extensive support through biweekly one-to-one meetings, open communication channels, and an encouraging team environment. The company fosters a sense of community, making it a great place to work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider offers good support, though much of the degree work is self-directed. However, assistance is available when needed, including tailored support for my dyslexia, ensuring a positive learning experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification provides a broad understanding of manufacturing engineering, equipping me for a future in the industry. However, my most valuable learning experiences come from hands-on work, asking insightful questions, and actively engaging with my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are numerous opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Ones that I enjoy include cycling, sailing, board games, and cinema outings. The company also organises running clubs, quiz nights, and family-friendly events, promoting a strong work-life balance.
