Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves a lot of different responsibilities, such as coordination tasks, report writing and data management / GIS. I enjoy that no two days are the same and I am constantly learning new skills and networking with colleagues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The environmental practitioner programme is enjoyable. I love the variation in work and the ability to specialise in the end.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
One of the main skills I have developed is the ability to make figures for reports using Arc GIS Pro. Before working at Mott MacDonald, I had neve come across the application before, and was interested in learning how to use it. I have also developed my confidence; working in a professional setting from such a young age has given me so many opportunities for growth.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I like the structure of my programme, the main factor being in-person university study. It's a great opportunity to meet others who are in the same position and learn from others' experiences.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Mott MacDonald are incredibly supportive when it comes to my needs as an apprentice. My line manager is especially considerate when sourcing work for me, that it aligns with the skills I need for my portfolio.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Coventry university are disappointing with their communication. Despite the in person learning being good and interesting, it's disappointing that they seem extremely unorganised when it comes to the apprenticeship courses compared to the full-time students.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My university course aligns really nicely with my day job: for example, we have a module on Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) which is what my team at work specialise in, so it's n ice to be able to apply my learning directly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Our office has a sports & social committee who organise and run office events frequently. We have pay-day drinks every month as well as networking events, lunch and learn session and Christmas/summer parties.
