Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Year 1, training at the academy with assessments and exams.
Year 2, on aircraft work for experience and qualification.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] Communication was not good, and lacked sincerity.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Aircraft work, tool husbandry, team working, leadership

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
A lot of things were changed last minute, communication about changes was horrible. Visits to bases were changed last minute despite plans being made. Lesson structures for my cohort were changed 4 times throughout the first year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
They were decent at supporting us through the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
An alright amount. The assessors have too many apprentices per person and receive very little credit for the work they do from their colleagues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
We are taught CAA CAT A modules (for civilian airliner work) to be put onto military aircraft. Only two modules out of the roughly 14 we do are military modules. They still have decently useful information, but not very useful for what the company want us to do (military aircraft)
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a company that provide good benefits despite the lower salary (compared with industry standards). There are opportunities out there if you look, however you do need to be prepared for low communication standards, double standards in terms of employee behaviour, etc. It is a good career company with many different jobs to choose from.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Keep your head high, focus on yourself and don't let others get to you. Be prepared for double standards when it comes to behaviours.
