Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
An overview of my day to day is a mix of working from home in offices and doing some jobs around site. Going into different teams around the company to assist in the safe commission and manufacture of the submarines. Giving an all round experience of what the company does.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
In my first 6 months I have really enjoyed the program so far luckily I got opportunities to go to london to an IET conference and go to Outward Bounds which is an event to get you improve your bonds with your cohort and do activities out in the lakes. The work environment is also fantastic majority of people being friendly and assist you in your placements. However the college that the company works with which is B&FC at Blackpool airport does not have the best teachers but they do give you the knowledge to get through exams so I can't complain.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt how it is to work in an office based environment whilst enhancing my knowledge of the nuclear industry and also being constantly developed through work and uni with knowledge and the detrimental skills for a working environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme has a very good structure with your early careers leads will sort out a time table of your placements for the first 3 years which are interchangeable upon request for the most part. The last 2 years in the apprenticeship you are in an end role which somewhat is chosen by you if your line managers liked you when you were doing that placement and their availability on the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
It is made clear from your induction in the many places you can find support within and outside of work in terms of mental health. In addition to this if you move from further then 40 miles away there is also a fund for relocation to assist you with the costs of moving.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I feel like the support offered from B&FC in Blackpool is limited on the quality of it teachers and they aren't always the best but they try and offer additional offers for online zoom lessons if you need help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like my training provider enhances my knowledge on detrimental subjects to the engineering industry and allows us to potentially improve our performance off this enhanced knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
In terms of social activities work dues are often organised a couple times a year as well as the apprentice cohorts often organise like whole cohort events for example the nuclear engineering cohort organise quiz nights, nights out and a Christmas ball. We also got the opportunity to go to Eskdale and do a week at outward bounds. In addition to this I was able to go to a IET conference in London because my line manager offered it on one of my placements.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend it to a friend because so far I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship appreciating factors such as being near the beach and the lakes, meeting new friends, enjoying my worklife and the opportunities I am continuously being provided with.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be confident in your decision to move here, learn as much as you can about the company for interviews as well as so you know what company your going into and just be open to meeting new people and you will really enjoy it.
