Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Creating virtual scenes, which involve CAD and point-cloud data captured via a 3D scanner. These scenes are used for: design for maintenance activities, demonstrations, familiarisation activities and accessibility assessments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
A very high extent. The ability to learn on the job, whilst gaining a degree alongside like-minded and dedicated people is a really beneficial aspect of the scheme. The ability to get a flavour for a variety of placements, all situated within different disciplines and areas of the business, is very useful for understanding where you want your career to go.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout my time, I have developed strong communication and critical thinking skills, as my role requires a lot of facetime with a variety of clients, ranging from external students to executive VIPs. Furthermore, I have garnered a lot of technical knowledge on a variety of platforms e.g. Typhoon, Tempest and other ongoing projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Within my daily role, I am very aware of my responsibilities and ongoing tasks. As I am currently within my exit role, the onus is on me to understand and carry out my duties, however the support that is provided to me is always visible. I also have a relatively good understanding of how my college / diploma work is to be completed, and how it relates back to my job role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support from my team and BAE Systems as a whole is always present and made obvious to me. I am always reminded of the various opportunities that are provided to me, such as getting involved in various communities, mentoring schemes, post-graduate opportunities etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Blackpool and the Fylde College offers a more personal and tailored approach to training, which complements the overall scheme well. Classroom-based learning, supplemented by group projects and practical endeavours, helps contextualise the degree and assists in relating it back to the day-to-day role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification, more specifically the topics that it covers, allows me to become more proficient in learning and then applying knowledge to practical situations. Although I do not necessarily use the knowledge in my daily role, I feel it serves a purpose it teaching me methods of retaining and utilising complex concepts and skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Plenty, there is always something happening either within the team or the wider business. Examples include: football / cricket / rugby teams organised within the business, charity events, networking opportunities, invitations to exclusive conferences / seminars / expos etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE Systems have been incredibly supportive in my career, and has provided me with the knowledge and understanding of where I want my career to go. Beyond the day-to-day activities of the scheme, I have made numerous friends and experienced opportunities that have really broadened my skillsets.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Attend Careers Fairs / Presentations etc., where BAE Systems are present and gain a personal understanding of what the scheme entails. Ensure you have a strong, general knowledge of the company, with respect to the sector you are interested in i.e. Air, Maritime, Land etc., when completing your application, get as many pairs of eyes on it as possible to ensure it is well-rounded and all-encompassing.
