Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Learning engineering maintenance techniques, conducting preventative maintenance and breakdown maintenance on machinery within the press shop at Jaguar Land Rover.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I absolutely love this apprenticeship programme. There are never ending opportunities to get involved, learn and also network within the company. There is always someone who is willing to teach you, and mold you into the next employee of that department.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt so many skills, from electrical wiring, PLC programming to mechanical maintenance and fault finding techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure is ok, there is need for further improvement, however, JLR are doing their best to address this. The Apprentice programme manager is really helpful at addressing problems and solving them. There is always someone to help and get you through the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have had numerous opportunities of support, there is always someone in the business who is willing to support you. If there are any problems, they are very quick at addressing them and solving them (with feedback also).
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
The training provider is the main issue within this apprenticeship at the Level 3 standard, Level 2 was good. NWTC (North West Training Council) do not have very good organisation with our apprenticeship. They, on multiple occasions, allow the class when we are on day release to waste so much time, yet they persist in telling us we do not have enough time to finish each module. For example, we are on our second semester for level 3 BTEC classes, and we didn't even have the opportunity to finish the first semester. We are now falling behind with our modules and we don't have work finished, yet we are expected to move onto the next set of modules.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
You have way more training, and to a higher standard in the workplace. JLR has multiple training environments which are more advanced than those in college. The machinery and electronics in college is barely relevant to those in the JLR work environment. This training provider (NWTC) is not liked by any of the JLR apprentices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are some opportunities, but only in departments in which the supervisors try with them ( in terms of social activities). In terms of networking opportunities, there are opportunities, you just have to find them yourself, however, they are mainly for colleagues down south. There is not much representation for colleagues up north in Halewood.
