Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work through payment applications, often looking to verify or dispute jobs from looking at photos. I also assist with third-party incase they make a claim on the jobs I look at. I also go on site visits to get my own data and measurements from jobs applied for.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme, as I am constantly learning new skills and meeting new people. I have a good team around me to support me when I am not certain on anything. I also enjoy going to different sites and see all sorts of jobs that occur.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The skills I have learned and developed are: Cost Estimation and Management, Construction Knowledge, Communication, Problem-Solving, Attention to Detail, Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well organised as I take one study day a week to study towards my degree. I then later start my APC and go for chartership towards the end of my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
They give me full support, as there is a dedicated apprenticeship team that run sessions for all apprentices to help from managing finances to networking with other people or businesses. I also have a Line-Manager that I constantly learn off and take advice from.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a great amount of support from my training provider, as there is a support team from the University I study at, there systems are very helpful and clear if you are unsure about anything.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am learning something new every week about my role and industry, it gives me more of an understanding of my role and what happens on jobs i look at and assess.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are tasks set by the apprenticeship team, such as group presentations. You can also have opportunities to do charity work for a couple days. Thames Water also has an annual raft race, that all employees can take part in and donate money for charity.

Why?
Since my first day starting, I have always felt welcome and supported by everyone. Thames has a very safe and calm working environment where everyone is included, everyone's voice can be heard.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Water?
Do not be worried about not fitting in or meeting new people. The employees of Thames Water are very welcoming and will support if you are unsure about anything. Be confident and ask many questions if you are unsure about anything.
