Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have started this job as a commis chef and it involves serving a large number of people from all backgrounds with all dietary requirements and religions. Working on behalf of the MOD on a rota basis. I prepare, cook and serve food. Assist with stock check and work on ensuring the kitchen is kept to the best hygienic standards required to meet what is required
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The program is really good and now I have a full plan I am really able to understand where my target are and what I need to achieve to get to my end gosl
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve learned COSHH requirements, dietary requirements, allergens. Temperature control. I am starting to get to understand portion control. I have learned how to use equipment I have never utilised on an industrial scale. For example. Fryers, hot plates, brat pans, etc. I have also learned how to butcher a chicken. Currently I am improving on my knife skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program seems to be very well organised. I have a map of events which are suitable to me and what will help me get to my end goal. They are also very good for my immediate manager to understand where I am to be focusing on
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has given me an immense amount of support from the get go and has given me all the tools to perform my job. There are a number of chefs within the building where i currently reside and each and every one is more than happy to help me where i need support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As this is is early stages of the apprenticeship I can only judge on what I have received so far and this has been very good. I have been provided a great training plan. I have been guided through what is required of me. Any additional courses which may be relevant to me. I feel from my initial consultation and chats the support I will get will be extremely good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am hoping from the qualification this will give me the qualities I need to become a fully qualified commis chef and then for me to progress into other roles within the chef status I.e. sous chef and eventually head chef etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The team do go out for social activities as and when there is free time for everyone to be free but this is something to yet be done as I have only been there for a short period. I cannot give a full rating on this as I do not know what other events compass would provide at this stage.

Yes
Why?
Compass seems to have a wealth of opportunities available and the training programs are exceptional. In my case this is true. I have already made recommendations to friends and family
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass group?
Make sure you provide as much detail about previous job roles as possible so that when you step into your new role. Everyone has an understanding of your capabilities and they know what your strengths and weaknesses are from the outset
