Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Open site, do a 'boots-on' which involves setting trades to work safely and ensuring any plant or other trade interface with the task are aware. After setting trades to work, site inductions are done to all new operatives. Co-ordinating tasks and communicating design changes or issues with trades is imperative to ensure efficient work flow.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
From the first day i have felt welcome. Kier have been great when i asked for more responsibility they allowed me to take it on and learn, and I made plenty of mistakes that they allowed me to fix and learn from them. The challenges that arise every day i find very enjoyable, i a always kept active and theres always an issue that needs a solution

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt plenty, from the use of digital technology, to site setting out with the engineer for drainage runs and running a landscape package has taught me, as the project was to an Department of Health standard there is a lot of niche standards to get to grips with. Communicating changes and issues effectively and managing trades are the main skills developed as these are hard to improve in university

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured, Kier offer a rotation to see all aspects of the company from management to surveying to design, however i knew i wanted to do management. They hold events for all the emerging talent team which is a great way of networking.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
If i ever needed support they offer, mental health, dental care, pension along with car mileage to get to and from work. My line manager was great and always told me the next project before finishing the current project and asked if there was any issues. Each site team is given a wellbeing budget to allow the team to have socials outside of work
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
They offer to pay for one professional subscription e.g. the CIOB and help achieve chartership. They are keen to know what i am doing in university and what i will do when i go back in terms of my dissertation and will provide feedback for my dissertation. The company is really keen to push you through your qualifications and keep young talent
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Being on-site has allowed me to apply the knowledge learnt but it has also worked the opposite way where when im on0site i can learn how to deal with situations and then look back and see how that applies to what i learnt such as site logistics with all trades, in terms of site setup or crane lifting operations
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Kier do put on charitable events for the community such as litter picking, they run events such as moving through May to keep the workforce active. However compared to what i was doing at university its hard to provide such extra curricular when the day job is already demanding.
