Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a first year mechanical fitter apprentice we spend 70% of our time in a workshop getting hands and spend the remaining 30% in the classroom learning and completing the coursework we are set.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme as when I was applying for apprenticeships I was looking for something very hands on and I have not been left feeling disappointed by the amount of hands on work we do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained skills and learned many different techniques some examples being the proper use and handling of tools such as files hammers saws whilst also improving my problem solving abilities by coming across problems and coming up with a solution by myself

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well set out already having a schedule for you to follow throughout the first year that tells you exactly what’s going on and when so you can be ready for upcoming events
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has provided many different sources of support to every single apprentice having a review every term to see if you are behind or stressed and to see how they can help support you
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive regular feedback from my training provider on the quality of both my on hands work and my coursework telling me how I can improve and what is good
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
What I’m learning for my qualification allows me to better understand the inner workings of the machines and helps me to identify where things may be located when taking machines apart which allows me to complete the tasks I’m given much faster
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Babcock as far as I’m aware does a lot of volunteering work and provides many opportunities for their workers to go to networking events in the future at this current time I do not have that opportunity but I’m sure I will at a later point

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Babcock due to the amount of hands on work you do whilst training and the amount of support you get whilst working towards your qualification helps immensely
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
Do some research on the company looking at things such as the companies values and some of the recent work they’ve completed
