Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

We do 3 month rotations between university and work, when at work we're placed within different operational engineering teams. Monitoring, maintaining and installing critical infrastructure. Responding to connectivity bookings and events.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Having worked for a few years before joining the BBC, I can easily say that the BBC has been the best employer I have worked for. The layout of the scheme makes it very enjoyable and manageable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

LOADS of new skills - almost too many to name. From technical skills like Soldering, Cabling, Networking, Electrical, Coding, etc - to soft skills such as organisation, time management, stakeholder relationships, administration, team work and presenting.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The organisation and structure is fantastic. At the beginning of the scheme we were given a high-level timetable for the year which massively helps with managing your time and schedule with lots of time at work, travelling and in person at uni. Hotel bookings are made well in advance which provides reassurance. Anything extra asked for is always provided promptly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Our scheme specialist and scheme advisor are absolutely fantastic, and only ever a phone call away. Whether it's personal or work based, they'll always do what they can to help (even if that's just lending a supportive ear). They remain aware of our timetable and schedule, keeping on top of exams and deadlines to ensure they always have time for pep talks and pre-exam nerves!

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The experience with the training provider can be a bit mixed, and it often varies from lecturer to lecturer. The course lead has always been quick to act when notified of any problems or drops in the quality of delivery.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The opportunity to obtain my degree whilst also gaining work experience is fantastic. The work and training elements generally align well. Although I definitely feel that the work experience is more valuable than the degree qualification in terms of performance in role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Attend as many webinars and events as possible. Gain as much work experience as you can - make sure to sell yourself as best as possible in the application (it's your opportunity to show why YOU are right for the role!)
