Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Work on the trading floor for the eFX desk. Daily tasks involve resolving issues for clients and interacting with them regarding a variety of topics. Changing pricing groups and controls for our traders and helping to produce analysis and reports on clients trading styles for sales and trading. Taken on numerous projects across a variety of eFX venues and internal systems.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I thoroughly enjoy my day to day job but I found the apprenticeship to be a waste of time as I studied topics that had almost zero relevance to the topics I involve myself with on a normal day. Rather than opting for us to the CFA Level 1 and then the Chartered Bankers Diploma (Lvl 6), they should have recognised that having the CISI regulatory (despite being a Level 4) would've been far more beneficial to my development as a front office employee, enabling me to advise and deal with clients more effectively.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I've learnt a lot about dealing with and visualising data. My analysis and interpretation skills have also improved as a result of making changes to optimise the eFX volumes that we see through our traders. My ability to communicate and influence people and teams is a newly developed skill, as well as my ability to lead large projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Poorly, we had close to no interaction or regular catch-ups with an early careers team or anyone to discuss our thoughts as a group to apart from our individual line managers until very late in the programme. As said previously, the wrong courses/pathways were chosen for us to do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
From my immediate team and colleagues, tremendous support. From the wider business, minimal - none.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Plenty, my coach at BPP was excellent throughout the entire programme and always very friendly/understanding.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
It doesn't. My qualification was in Commercial Lending + Professionalism & Ethics and i work in eFX on the trading floor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I play football on Wednesdays with my colleagues on the floor.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
No
Why?
For an apprenticeship, I wouldn't recommend. For a normal role, I would. I have had younger apprentices mention to me on a regular basis that they have minimal work to do as well as minimal in-office contact with their line managers, leaving them feeling like they aren't developing - which is the whole point of an apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
Depends on your role/function. For front office roles I would say to be extremely dedicated and focused. The expectations are very high and it's a high-pressure and fast paced environment. It has taught me a lot though and I;m extremely grateful for the opportunity I was given.
