Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice radio producer, my roles include answering phones, writing briefs for presenters and booking guests. I have also produced live radio and created digital media videos.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
this is the best thing that I have ever done and the BBC and in particular BBC Radio Wales has made this apprenticeship what it is. I've learned so much from everyone here and can't wait to continue my career in this industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned how to produce live radio and drive a radio studio desk.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
All training block dates are provided at the start of the apprenticeship and they are spread out through 12 months. I knew exactly where I was for the whole apprenticeship which was very helpful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line and placement managers have helped me through this so much and I've learned so much from colleagues in the department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have regular catch ups to keep on top of work as well as during the weeks we are in college
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Personally I think that what we learn in the BBC is far more beneficial to the qualification itself. The people doing the course are the helpful ones as we can lean on their experiences.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I was a regional coordinator for the apprentice community and we organised meet ups with them, along with other department socials and christmas parties

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The support and enjoyment I've had with the BBC has been world class, like the BBC is. They've set me up for the rest of my career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself. The BBC want real people to deliver their aims and goals. Don't try and be someone you think they want.
