Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Get assigned a story in the morning meeting then I will set up interviews, film and edit them for radio, write an online article and edit tv. I will then also write the scripts for them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it thoroughly. The BBC have provided well thought out training which has benefited my progression as well as my office being supportive of me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes. I was not too familiar with the editing side of things (audio and video) so during my time I was able to build on that. Also working up my writing skills for different platforms.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The BBC side of training was very structured and well organised, we knew what we were doing and when. However, the PA training could feel a bit confusing and chaotic at times as it was mostly done remotely.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have biweekly check ins with my line manager and receive feedback from my colleagues constantly. My office support my endeavours and encourage me to do my best.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
For exams they would help a fair bit, some teachers more than others. However, when it came to portfolio work or my End Point Assessment they often would not give us enough information we needed to do our best and we were working from past examples and guides, they were sometimes unreachable and would not respond to emails.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
They helped me understand the basics of writing, doing interviews, and editing and that enabled me to be able to develop that when I do work for my office.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
The BBC apprentice community often host events like online yoga, park runs, and networking events. However, they are largely based on the mainland and it would be difficult for me to get there from Guernsey. But they are trying to increase the amount of online events they do for apprentices who cannot travel far.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company as a whole provide amazing training for those who are just starting out. Personally, my office are helpful and kind, always wanting to lend a hand. The overall team are very close and the vibe is great and makes me love coming into work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be open to trying anything, you may not love the idea of doing a certain aspect in your role but you never know once you give it a try you may love it. Come up with some ideas of projects you'd like to work on if you got the role, they tend to like hearing that.
