Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I test electronic products and components for various different systems that BAE produce. This involves both testing and diagnostic work should something fail.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the day to day work that came with the apprenticeship as it tests my skills and develops my engineering knowledge. I did not enjoy the college side of the apprenticeship, as in my opinion, it was poorly managed and it was difficult to learn from.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed problem solving skills here with BAE as diagnostic work for electronic components requires problem solving skills. I have also developed my technical vocabulary so I have a greater understanding of the components and equipment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The organisation of the programme has been below expectations. It seems like there is no communication between certain departments which can cause confusion.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
I get support from the people I work with on a day to day basis but I didn't feel like there was much of any support from the apprentice skills and development centre/apprentice manager with regards to what needs to be done on the engineering standard side of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
There was hardly any support from the training provider due to the scale of the course and the amount of apprentices being taught by the few lecturers. Some of the feedback was vague and didn't help with the work being set.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
The qualification was not relevant to my job role. I am in an electrical role and the qualification was heavily mechanical biased and the subjects being taught didn't translate into what I do on a day to day basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are activities to get involved in however it is not made clear on how to enter these events as most of them aren't advertised well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The job is interesting and despite some of the communication issues, the staff are great to work with and are good individuals who want you to learn and excel in the field of engineering. The skills learnt can be applied in most sectors of engineering and the products that BAE work on are interesting.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
N/A
