Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I feel like with compass you get all the help and requirements to do the job provided such as I need chef knives to help me to grow into my role. My manager put in the request and it was approved to order them along with some NVQ books to help me gain more knowledge and off the job training. My day to day role involves preparing and cooking food for the client who we cater for and make sure it is to the highest standard while following a company recipe and specification sheet to ensure food is uniform across the business
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying my programme and the opportunities that I am getting such as I am currently booked to do a masterclass with bryn Williams in the summer time this is only possible from the support through work. Opportunities to go and work at events like Brit awards or Wimbledon as well, so many options and they are happy to help you progress in your training.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I came from a completely different work background so I am learning every day and learning new techniques from different chefs or even different things from the front of house team. I have just worked along side my manager the last few shifts and gained lots of knowledge from himself which will help me grow into my new role. The help from my trainer also provides much needed support when I have questions they are answered quickly or demonstrated to myself. Couldn’t ask for more

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I feel like the programme is broken down relatively well, some food products we don’t use daily in work or never use I am helped to still learn the correct procedure for these via going to a masterclass so
I will have a high level of knowledge of different foods, techniques on cooking them or even preparing and plating them.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support is fantastic I couldn’t ask for more, I get opportunities to do my off the job training whether that’s attending a masterclass, going to an event to help in the kitchens there or just to generally complete my apprenticeship workbooklet and making sure I can type up my evidence or things I have completed over the week.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider comes to visit me once a month but if I have any questions or need any advice she is always happy to take a phone call or even go onto a teams call. They will also be helping my progression with masterclasses they have set up themselves.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel the knowledge my trainer has will help me progress by passing down information or the work that’s set for me has detailed descriptions or videos which makes it easy for everyone to understand and following the same guidance which I feel is key in a business. I feel I have made huge steps so far in gaining knowledge and absorbing as much information as possible each day as everyday is a new day to learn
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
As mentioned previously with Compass they have so many different departments that opportunities with them is endless and that you can put yourself forward to help at events such as football stadiums that they cater for or other sporting events but also music events. I have never worked somewhere that you have so many options and opportunities to progress they want people to succeed in there job and will support every step of the way.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Compass group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because they are a great company to work for, you have the options to do courses which they fund for you if needed which helps you progress in your own career but can give you the stepping stone needed to progress up within the company into management roles or higher.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass group?
I would tell people to go for it and see how many great opportunities there is for everyone working within the business, they want everyone to be involved and management are often visible which is key to keeping a healthy work force. Any issues you have get resolved quickly or even concerns they are all dealt with privately and quickly.
