Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a in the FinOps team as an Analyst/Developer. Day-to-day I work with python, cloud services, terraform, gitlab, to automate and integrate cloud tooling and features to help the business manage there cloud consumption.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my role at the company. I have had the opportunity to meet lots of peers through inductions. There are weekly drop-ins to make sure everyone is getting on okay. I have been given good tasks that allow me to take on responsibility and work, helping to develop my skills faster.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. I have grown more confident communicating in a group setting, asking for help and voicing my thoughts. I have developed strong problem solving skills within a new area for me (cloud computing). I have had to learn new programming skills quickly, like using terraform, git, gitlab pipelines, aws and python.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe the initial induction was organised very well. We were introduced to the company and given the chance to meet our peers. I believe the job role could use a bit more structure with regards to the apprenticeship material, however, I am very happy with what I am learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive more than enough support. We have weekly drop ins, support groups, company webinars explaining everything from wellbeing, pensions/finance, learning and development, charity work etc. I have a very helpful and open team/department that I can contact and talk to at anytime for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Plenty of support. I can contact them at any time and receive updates from my skills coach. QA also have lots of material for learning around the apprenticeship and even other areas you may be interested in. The class teachers are also very helpful!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I believe the apprenticeship qualification gives me a good surface level understanding of a lot of areas in my job role, however, the bulk of the work is learning on the job and problem solving with real world problems which I believe to be the most useful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, my work provides lots of opportunity to get involved with extra curricular activities. Sports teams, councils, learning groups, charity work, hosting your own webinars/"gigs", I will even be going to a conference soon, and lots of socials are organised across the company.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Amazing work atmosphere. Everyone is helpful and kind. The company really emphasize learning and personal development so there is loads of opportunity to expand your skills or hone in on them. Plenty of room to work and collaborate in different areas or get involved with anything. The company has a very open and inclusive mindset making it very enjoyable to work at!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
I would say you are in a good position if you like to learn a lot, you like collaborating and working with others, are able to work well on your own as a lot of work can be remote first so also communicate well, ask questions, enjoying open and inclusive environment, and also you need patience as a lot of the internal software environment and change can be slow. You also need a focus on costumer success and simplifying things for our costumers, both internal and external.
