Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On the day to day I work in the newsroom. I have had the opportunity to write articles for the BBC website, create radio packages, social videos and work with TV. One day a week is spent studying for the NCTJ diploma.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed every minute of the course I am on. The team I work with make sure I feel part of the team and treat me like a colleague rather than an apprentice. I feel supported in my learning and have had the opportunity to do some things I never thought I would be able to such as going to Downing Street or to the Old Bailey.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Most of the skills I have learnt are new skills. I have learnt about media law and public affairs. I have learnt how to produce content and how to edit video. My confidence has also greatly improved. I develoved my voiceover skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The scheme is well structured. There have been times where the time frame in which I have had to study for an exam has been overwhelming but my schems leaders and manager were flexible and allowed me more time to study when needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is brilliant at supporting me. I feel respected and listened to when I have concerns. I had a bereavement in September and was supported with additional time off to spend with family after the funeral and extra support with content I missed for an upcoming exam.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider has supported me with my qualifications. My teachers have always been respectful and supportive. Whenever I have had questions about the material they have been quick to answer. I feel incredibly lucky to learn from such great teachers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification relates to my current role. I am aware of regulatory issues, OFCOM and IPSO. I recieved an A in my media law, which would allow me to report of court reports. I also recieved an A in public affairs. I have since written aritcles about the care quality commission and contacted government departments for comments on stories.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have been out of social activities with colleagues from my office. I have also been to social events with fellow apprentices, such as going to see a musical or kareoke. I am involved in the Young Talent Network at the BBC.
