Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My at JLR Gaydon is in the Electrical Engineering Operations, specifically Labcar. In labcar, I do daily tests on the labcars to ensure that there are no errors or faults on the car. I help build the labcars, this includes building the kanya which holds the components, mounting the components and wiring the components together. I also help labelling components and harnesses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship a lot. There is a more hands on approach then classroom work which I prefer. I have integrated with my team well and really enjoy coming onto site. When I come to college on a Wednesday, I learn a lot and manage to get my work done well with not much work overload.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
In my new apprenticeship, I have learnt lots of skills. Skills in electrical engineering which include wiring components, creating circuits and understanding more complicated systems. I have also learnt other skills which aren't directly linked to my job role but will help e create a better understanding - these include machining, turning and fitting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I believe that JLR has a very structured programme. All their apprentices are supported through their 4 years and have an understanding of each step of the process. My manager, the Work Base Learning Managers and the Cohort Leads communicate with us a lot so we understand what is happening within the company and college.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. This is from my team, my manager and everyone else I need help from. I know where I need to go if I need support and everyone within the company is very welcome to help. Even being at the company for only 7 months, I have received lots of support for a variety of things I struggled with as a new apprentice.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider with my learning for my apprenticeship. If I have a problem with my learning or within the classroom my tutors are very open and happy to have a conversation. If I am struggling with work I am able to get the support I need to get to where I need to be.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My learning within college is very beneficial for my role within my company. I have done a lot of electronics which has helped me a lot for what I have needed to do within my job role as it is a heavy focus in electronics. Also other learning has helped me get a better understanding of the company and my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There a lot of extracurricular activities external to work. I am part of a few external group chats such as the rugby team. However, I get a lot of emails notifying me of all the different things I can join or be a part of.
