Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am an Applied Professional Degree Apprentice doing the Product Design and Development pathway. My home team is the Vehicle Packaging and Concepts Technical Area (VPaCTA), I have a lot of support and I am currently on placement within a sub team. A lot of my daily tasks involve using CAD and as I progress, I will be assigned more projects and take on a higher level of responsibility.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, it has a good balance of work and education. I like the fact that I am able to apply what I learn at both interchangeably. I am very glad that I chose this programme rather than the traditional university route as I really enjoy my day to day

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many skills, the main one being to do with CAD. This is a system that I had never used before but my team put in place training so that I could learn these skills and I am now very comfortable with a range of its functions.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
There is a lot of structure within my team to ensure that I meet the requirements of the apprenticeship. As well as this, it is very clear as to when I am meant to be studying and when I am meant to be working which means that I am able to organise my time accordingly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support, whenever I have an upcoming submission or exam, I get a pinch point day which gives me the opportunity to ensure that I am fully prepared. As well as this, on many occasions I have had to get help from my colleagues for university assignments and they are always more than happy to do so.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I would say that there is slightly less support than what I get from my employer. Despite this, I do have a degree apprenticeship tutor that I can reach out to about any queries I have concerning the university side of the course and they are always very helpful. As well as this I have tripartites with my tutor where we discuss if I am struggling or need any additional support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that what I get from my training provider definitely helps me to perform better in my role. The modules that are taught help me become a more well rounded individual who will be able to progress through the business in the future as well as teaching me the fundamentals of what I need to know to be a competent engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many extra curriculars, one that I get involved with is the Early Careers Socials. I have attended many hikes that they have organised but I know that they also organise things such as balls, winter sport outings (skiing etc) as well as other more relaxed ones that include bowling.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think that it is a great place to be in, there is a lot of support and a range of things you can get involved in, JLR is a company that is very experienced with apprentices and there is a lot of available opportunities internal after the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Make sure you are familiar with JLR's core values, things such as the Reimagine Strategy and the Creators Code. Being able to align yourself to this is very important as it shows that you stand for the same things as the business and would therefore be a good candidate. As well as this, JLR value who you are as a person so I would recommend focusing on your soft skills such as communication.
