Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I help programme controls systems using PLCs, as well as helping do safety validations on code. I also help design the HMI screens on the factory floor
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme lots, but it was tricky in the beginning due to the newness of the environment. It is also tricky balancing uni and work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed software and programming skills, along with confidence in doing things myself.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is very supportive and takes time to teach me new skills. He actively wants me to be involved in projects which it nice. The early careers support team are also good for wellbeing support, however check-ins are infrequent.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We receive a minimum of one day a week dedicated to studying, however there is often time in the work day to do some coursework. This varies department to department, but on the whole working in the evenings/weekends is very rare for me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
So far, the things I have learnt at uni have not directly related to the work I am doing, however as the course gets more in depth there are modules coming up which should greatly aid my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Yes, however there tend to be aimed towards people working at a different site to me which I cannot travel to regularly, so it is tricky to be involved in those.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is great to be earning whilst learning and the environment pushes you in a good way. I would say that it is tricky initially to find your feet when the rest of the team is well integrated, and that it is heavily male-dominated in engineering (I am the only girl in my department).
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Don't be afraid to be bold. You never make an impression by being the same as everyone else. Life is too short to be worried about being too loud, and they seem to get that here.
