Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Daily, I'm a vehicle integration engineer. This involves using CAD to design car parts and overcoming design issues on upcoming cars. My role also includes hands-on engineering in workshops where we test the manufacturability of the cars from their CAD designs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
One of my main concerns was work-life balance. The balance is very good relative to other apprenticeship providers (from what I've heard), and the daily work is very engaging. I also have enough down time and I can regularly attend UoWarwick socials and feel like a uni student.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The programme is very learning heavy. Within my first 6 months I've learnt how to use CATIA V5, a CAD software... ICIDO, CO-LAB, VRED (VR software). My role has also developed my interpersonal skills such as presenting and communication

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The academics of the programme is very well structured as its provides by UoWarwick, they use modules from full-time courses. The work and university split is very well structured as you have dedicated days throughout the week for each side of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
At JLR you feel very supported via the various channels. This can be from your manager, your personal apprenticeship tutor and HR. They make you feel as if you can speak about any problem whether it's work related or not and we have dedicated 'catch-up' sessions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
UoWarwick is supportive in making sure you do well academically. Due to small cohort sizes I can message my lecturers via teams for help. Also, you can attend optional seminars throughout the week and you can have you questions quickly answered.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Honestly, the 'engineering' I do in my degree isn't related to my day to day job in most cases. Although, this is to do with degrees in general much of the knowledge I acquire from my degree is just a checkbox for the qualification, however learning CAD was very useful at uni and at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
JLR apprentices are lucky in regards to social life. There's an early careers social programme to socialise with other apprentices, we have hiking trips, ski trips, weekly football (+ other sports) and many other events. Also being UoWarwick students, we have full access to university societies and socials. I've joined many myself and I get to have university friends also and I socialise with them on a weekly basis.
