Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I usually work from home and am trusted to do my work on my own accord. I'm in office on Wednesday's and usually work on CAD designs as part of a small team responsible for delivering design solutions to internal customers. I sometimes get given solo projects to complete and take charge of myself
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the balance of work/ education with Fridays being reserved for uni study. The other people on my programme are great and I have made good friends. At work I don't talk as much with the team about casual topics, I am by far the youngest among those i work with

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained very advanced skills in 3D modelling and CAD tools which I use on a daily basis. I have learnt how to structure and lead projects as well as the process that goes in to working towards a wider objective

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
the uni side of things is poorly organised often having exam/assignment results delayed for various reasons. The uni block & study day balance is well structured giving good time to learn and well spaced out. Exams often fall close to each other though, giving quiet periods with not much activity, followed by extremely busy periods with intense work load.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager personally accommodates for most of my requests with additional support when I need it. I rarely feel as though I cannot ask with fear of being shut down. With the wider team they offer as much mentoring as I need when I have queries with the work I have been given.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have a personal mentor who was once an apprentice so he understands the journey and what I need to do well. He offers lots of support and guidance with certain projects and the course as a whole. There are also some older current apprentices who recently completed the content I am working on currently and they offer help with how to prepare for these assignments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I have yet to apply much of anything learned at uni in my job role. And the current modules we are learning do apply, but having begun training in CAD from the start of the course I have progressed far beyond the scope of what content like this they teach at uni, so this module still feels somewhat obselete
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots of stuff available via the early careers and apprentices channels through teams. We also have access to all of the societies regular students at Warwick can do so there is plenty of choice.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As far as an early career in engineering goes I have not seen anyone who has progressed further than me and my peers at our current age. I believe I am in a great position for the future and do not regret taking this path as I will have a major head start once I complete my degree.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Make the application specific to what you like to do. I mentioned aerodynamics throughout my application process and my current job role is linked heavily with this. Show your appreciation for the industry and heritage of the company and be well versed on the future plans the company has.
