As an apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), I am responsible for the data analysis and management of the data produced within my department, which operates in a test field environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my apprenticeship at JLR, as it allows me to learn on the job and receive support from my colleagues. However, balancing university work and study can be challenging at times. Despite this, the hands-on experience and collaborative environment make it a rewarding experience.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship at JLR, I've developed strong communication and teamwork skills by collaborating with engineers and technicians. Additionally, I've gained proficiency in using industrial-standard data analytics tools, enhancing my ability to analyze and manage data effectively. These transferable skills are invaluable for my future career.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is not very organized. I often face back-to-back assignments, working through weekends, with assignment with last-minute changes. Teaching weeks are intensive, and I frequently have to re-teach myself the material. This lack of structure makes it challenging to manage my workload effectively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provides substantial support by allowing Fridays as study days and offering additional time if needed. They also organize sessions to help us meet the skills required in the apprenticeship standards. This support is invaluable in balancing work and study commitments effectively.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive support from my training provider through Teams chat, where I can ask questions and seek clarification. Additionally, I can ask the lecturer during lectures, which helps me stay on track with my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that only 50% of the content in my degree is directly relevant to my role, and I can apply about 30% of it in practice. The remaining content provides eye-opening insights and extra opportunities, which, while not directly applicable, still contribute to my overall growth and understanding.

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend JLR to a friend because you get paid while earning a degree. Although it can be challenging, it's worth it. You don't have to worry about finding a job, you gain hands-on practice, and you can make mistakes and learn as you go along.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
I would recommend having strong time management and multitasking skills when applying to JLR. Balancing work and university life is challenging and can take up your weekends. Be prepared to stay focused and dedicated. It's essential to manage your time effectively to succeed in both areas.
