Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day-to-day basis, as I am training to become a senior technician it involves a good mixture of 'hands on' and office based work. My department is involved in testing so a lot of my day is spent running and programming tests as well as the relevant fitting and tooling work that goes with it.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Although there are aspects of being at work that you are not always going to enjoy, the people at JLR make it much better. I enjoy the different projects, responsibilities and opportunities that are available at JLR.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Having not had much experience with 'hands on' work before joining JLR they provide excellent support and training that allows you to pick up these skills very quickly. I have also massively developed my people and communication skills, something that is invaluable in any workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say that the programme is very well structured, JLR understand that we are managing a new job as well as the HNC/HND course and provide us with study days to complete any outstanding college work that you have. I have always received good communication and direction of when and where I am supposed to be somewhere.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I always feel that I have someone I can speak to about my issues, whether that's my mentor or the early careers team. They always give you good direction and advice on how to deal with things, using their experience to help me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
In terms of the 'hands on' side of the qualification the support was outstanding, if you were unsure on how to do something or go about completing a task someone would always be there to help. But the theory work it is not always so available, the support is still quite good but it can sometimes be hard to get the help required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The 'hands on' training helped massively for people like me that have little experience in that area to pick up the basic skills need for my role. In terms of the theory work I haven't had much opportunity so far to implement many skills into my role but the practice on excel etc will definitely be useful in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I don't think I will have enough space to mention everything at JLR that goes on to be honest. On team there are countless numbers of societies, sports teams and networking activities available. I personally have used the JLR 'Invest In You' scheme (a scheme in which JLR will pay up to £200 for you to learn a new skill, start something new etc.) to partake in an hour long off-roading experience.
