Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Running emissions tests on petrol and diesel vehicles. We also do battery range and depletion tests for electric vehicles. I also set up the robot drivers for the battery range tests as they are very long and the robot means the is no human error in the testing process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the program a lot. I enjoyed my time at college as I was meeting new people and developing lots of skills which are now useful in my role such as electronics and electrical principles. Work is very engaging and hands on which i enjoy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned how to process filters from tests using the robot weighing machine. I have learned how to use the software used to run the tests. I can set up the robot drivers for tests and secure the cars onto the dyno.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised and I always have a clear idea of what i will be doing each week and in my day to day work. The early careers team are very helpful and are easy to get a hold of if i have any questions.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer supports me at work by allowing me time to complete college work and assignments if i need it. They also help by planning us tasks and projects to do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Sometimes the support i receive is good in lesson when i am unsure about anything or i need some clarification on what i need to do on my assignment. However, some tutors do not fully teach us what is on our assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The skills I have gained at college have helped me in the workplace as I have a better idea about engineering as a whole. I understand what goes into ensuring the quality of the vehicles are up to standard.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are team social events such as go karting which is planned and there are sports groups which you can join such as the rugby one.
