Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Talking to members mostly by email and letter, providing them with information about their pension and answering their queries. Also calculating member benefits to provide retirement and transfer quotations and dealing with payments to members through different types of cases such as retirement and death cases.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy parts of my job, when we are busy I find the methodical approach to working through high case volumes to be quite satisfying and I enjoy the process driven elements of the role. I like being knowledgeable about the Scheme I work on and feeling confident to help members with their questions and concerns.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes I have learnt about pensions and all the technical skills I use within my role have been developed from scratch. My existing transferable skills from previous jobs have been developed through working as part of a team and within an office environment in a 9-5 job and taking responsibility for my own workload.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured as within my role the tasks required of me daily are set and that is what I focus on while I am at work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive minimal support from my employer as they do not have a large role to play with my apprenticeship work. That being said my manager has always been accommodating about making sure I have enough time within my work hours to complete apprenticeship work and my mentor has been involved in some of my calls and has given short written statements as required to confirm that my work is correct and true.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
I have unfortunately not received adequate or consistent support from my training provider. They have not been knowledgeable about the subject or the programme and have made things much harder as they have often given false information or do not stay true to their word regarding actions to be taken.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
My apprenticeship and qualification has not helped me to perform better in my role. All the training for my role required to complete my tasks was provided to me by WTW and mentors within my team. The apprenticeship programme has simply been a case of writing up what I do in work to meet certain criteria for the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not really, I have attended a work volunteer day and social Christmas parties, however I am not aware of many social or extra-curricular activities taking place outside of work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Depending on the type of job my friend was looking for, WTW provides a reliable, consistent workload and it is a stable job and income. There is a good work life balance as you do not need to work outside of your allocated hours. The work is not physically tiring and usually low stress so it has many valuable attributes and employee benefits. I feel that I am paid fairly for what I do and am able to do overtime when I like.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
Be confident and talkative. Show your true self and if you have an interview then ask lots of questions about the role and be inquisitive. To do well in this role all you need to be is be willing to learn and show that you are eager and reliable, so it can be well suited to a lot of people.
