Retirement Actuarial Trainee Consultant Intern Review

In the role we were involved with client work from an early stage, completing tasks on Excel and various other platforms. A large part in the first few weeks was also technical training, learning about the foundations for calculations through live sessions and individual tasks. There were also lots of networking opportunities. On average there were one or two socials per week and one or two senior colleague catch-ups were also organised throughout the week.

I have been really surprised with the amount of work we have been able to get involved with throughout the internship. We have been assigned individual tasks from a very early stage, and it was great to see how we could have a direct impact on client teams.

I have been able to develop my critical thinking skills through solving problems in work tasks, and we have been given the opportunity to develop presentation skills through an intern project. The technical training helped me to develop a lot of knowledge on how pension calculations work.

I had a great support network during my time at WTW. I had two buddies to contact if I had questions, as well as a line manager and lots of other people who were willing to help. Feedback was received on nearly all the tasks I did.

The company culture was very welcoming and friendly. We had regular socials to meet other members of the team and everyone was willing to answer any questions you may have.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I haven't ever found myself sat with nothing to do, but also haven't had to work hours and hours of extra time. It has really been the people that have made the experience, and from the very first day I have always felt welcomed.
