Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In my role, the main analytical tool I am utilising is Microsoft Power BI. I have had the opportunity to both create and enhance reports for audiences to use more easily. I also conduct daily data quality checks relating to mapping as well as handling access requests we get sent in for our Power BI reports.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have found my apprenticeship really enjoyable so far, and I think it has been the perfect way for me to start my career within the data industry. I have been fortunate to join a brilliant team and work for a line manager who is very knowledgeable in the subject and dedicates time to teach and train me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have significantly developed my technical skills and I have started to grow my expertise within the field of data analytics. I have also strengthened many transferable skills during my time at WTW, such as communicating professionally with others. I feel as though my confidence has improved a lot since starting my role here.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I feel as though the programme has been relatively well structured, with the expectations for the course outlined early on in our apprenticeship induction. I use my Friday each week as my dedicated study day for my apprenticeship, and I also aim to complete one portfolio project per month to stay on track. The monthly catch-up calls with my learning mentor help to keep me progressing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My experience at WTW has been really positive, and I have been fortunate to join a great team who are able to support my learning. Two of my team members have completed the apprenticeship course I am studying, and so they are able to provide some really helpful guidance around studying and completing my portfolio projects.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider have been mostly effective in their communication and have provided the necessary resources for me to keep progressing towards obtaining my apprenticeship. We were sent a comprehensive learning guide in our induction to structure our study days, and we use OneFile to log our progress. The in-person training courses at the Firebrand centre are a great way to practice some hands-on analytics, obtain certifications and network with fellow data analyst apprentices.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have been quite satisfied with how the learning material provided by my training provider has linked to the work I am being assigned day-to-day. I am enjoying the fact that I have the opportunity to take what I learn during my study days and apply that knowledge in a work setting. My line manager works hard to ensure I am assigned the right work to meet the apprenticeship KSBs.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have found numerous opportunities provided by WTW to encourage professional networking, and these have really benefitted me. I attended several several social events and team activities with my apprenticeship cohort within our initial induction. I have also signed up to monthly coffee randomisers, providing the chance to meet new colleagues within the business and network/connect.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
WTW offers a brilliant programme for apprentices and graduates, and it is clear how much effort is made by the early careers team to help attract the best young talent into the business. The company culture here at WTW is totally unique, and so it has proven to be a perfect place to start my career, and I would recommend it highly to others.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
With WTW offering such a strong programme for apprentices, the competition is high and so my advice to anyone applying would be to adequately prepare for the application process. You will need a well-written CV to pass through the initial stages, but there are many others before the final assessment centre. The best thing to do here is to be your authentic self, act/answer honestly and showcase yourself in the best light possible.
