Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I cover the whole North East Region as HSE Trainee, shadowing the two advisors in my Business Unit. There are projects in various locations that I cover such as Sheffield, Boston, Derby, Scarborough, Mexborough and Hull. There are other exciting projects coming up also in Leeds.
-Implementing and ensuring compliance with current legislation
-Shadowing HSE Advisors
-BSI Audit preparation
-Carrying out Safety Inspections on site
-Providing safety related support and advice to the business
-Working on intiatives to improve safety behaviours and cultures on site
-Led meets, presentations and recorded meeting minutes with desired actions/outcomes
-Collation and trending accident statistics
-Drug and alcohol testing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy working at VINCI, the people you work with are so supportive and friendly, which is what makes the job so enjoyable. I enjoy the fact that no two days are the same and I get to see/visit different locations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills. General knowledge is a big one. Before working at VINCI, I had never been on a construction site so as well as learning the safety side, construction knowledge has been a big learning curve for me. I have also developed communication skills and confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme has been very organised as I am constantly with a HSE professional rather than being left to figure things out alone. I am always kept busy which is something I like. My line manager has also spoke to me about a possible business rotation in the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from VINCI. If I ever have an issue, it is resolved as soon as possible. When my car broke down, I was given a more reliable, fleet van. If I ever have any questions, they are answered.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Support is there whenever its needed as the tutors are only an email away.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification is given me the HSE knowledge in order to conduct my role properly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many professional networking events that VINCI do such as the Early Careers Networking Event, HSE Apprentice get-togethers and HSEW Conferences. In terms of social activities, site teams organise various nights out to attend and there are also various wellbeing events that take place in the NE Business Unit.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vinci to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have already recommended VINCI previously to friends on other apprenticeships as they have found that their apprenticeship programme is non-existent and they are left to sit in a corner with little to do/stuck on reception. VINCI have organised my programme well, all tasks are in some way relevant to my role and I'm never bored.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
I would advise others applying to VINCI to try and get some work experience in construction so that its not as unfamiliar to you as it was to me when I started.
