Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was a 2 day virtual internship about the tax division. It started off with the different functions of the business and many speakers (like Chartered Accountants and Graduates) spoke to us. On the second day there was a case study we went through with an EY Partner in Tax.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
EY described all the different sectors of the business like Assurance, Tax, Technology, Strategy and Transactions etc. They made us aware of all the professional qualifications involved and the summer internship and graduate opportunities for future years. They were very clear about the difference in the roles and the further opportunities and flexibilities

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes definitely. EY made us present the tax case study in small groups, so my presentation and confidence improved greatly. We used a lot of maths calculations in our case study so analytical skills were strengthened. EY encouraged us to participate and unmute ourselves which increased my confidence and public-speaking skills.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
EY was very friendly and open. The spring week was quite informal and all the employees were very light-hearted and friendly. It wad fun, especially when they had an award-winning magician for a virtual magic show!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the Women in Business programme. It was a wonderful experience to meet EY employees, especially networking with the partners at EY who were very friendly and open. The day was filled with fun and it was a collaborative learning environment. I enjoyed connecting with other interns and working with them in the case study session.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
EY wants candidates who are analytical and numerical. The numerical test is time-recorded and requires high accuracy. I would suggest practicing tests online. Be yourself in the Job Simulation. EY looks for people who they wish they would like to work with, not someone who has no character.
