Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My working day starts at 7 in the morning. The morning briefing takes place, where I learn what is going on for site on that day, and where I can learn what I need to do on that day. This involves setting out, surveys and setting levels.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the apprenticeship I am on as i feel comfortable in my role. I get on with the people I work with very well and there is no stupid question.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Being able to set up the total station which is a completely new skill, and then use the total station to allow site to keep moving. Existing skills include being able to communicate more efficiently with others, and building new relationships in work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme I am on is clearly structured where I can progress to a Site Agent and Contracts Manager. I am well looked after, with a well above minimum wage salary and a company car.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am always enrolled onto different training courses like confined space, mapping course and health and safety awareness courses, which is something taken very seriously. I also have quarterly reviews with my line manager to track progress and what more I can do be doing to improve.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The college are supporting me into being chartered as an EngTech with the Institute of Civil Engineers.
The college course its self is not site specific, so I do not learn much at college where i can apple to my day to day job.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
There is not a great correlation between the college course and my work on site. However, I accept that this is the qualification that employers would prefer, and it can help me to progress.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I am involved in the STEM ambassador programme, which allows me to do different activities and events like attending schools and talking to young people about their future in STEM. I am also doing a bike ride from one site to another for charity, with work.
