Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
We work to broker insurance between commercial clients and insurers, working closely with both parties, utilising Lloyd's of London and direct communication to negotiate on risk placements. We have a consistent workflow which is based around flexibility, having working from home 2 days a week.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
All aspects of my programme I have enjoyed so far from the day-to-day to the learning. The role has integrated flexibility and also takes a lot of time to consider networking as a valuable tool so I can also enjoy some more informal sides of the industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt thoroughly about the insurance industry, the terminology behind this as well as using all platforms of Microsoft Office 365 and various specific platforms we use for our business. I have learnt to negotiate and getting insurance contracts placed within the market and handling communications between both insurers and insureds(clients).

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is really well managed between The Growth Company and WTW so that anything regarding my learning and working life is managed as it should be and I am very well involved, being directed where to speak to resolve and issues/concerns I may have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have weekly check-ins with my Manager to discuss how I am managing my tasks and how I am coping with working regarding and personal ongoings etc. I also have a monthly call with the external apprenticeship coordinator for the department who works with WTW to ensure that all apprentices are going on well and feel safe in the job. I also have a mentor who is a senior colleague in another department that can provide advice to me and support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider sets out specific calls to discuss my progression outside of a formal review so that I can raise any concerns and better understand where I need to develop. I also have formal sessions with them where we have lessons for particular chapters of a module.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Many times I have spoken about something with somebody from my training provider and it has come back to relate directly to my daily tasks, including understanding specific terminology or more complex structures that can be seen throughout the insurance industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
100%!!! I was worried about missing out on any extra-curricular activities by not going to university but I could not be more wrong. Genuinely, there are so many events that are open to attend and getting to meet new people and network is a vital part of our industry.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The role is amazing in the support I have been given, the opportunities is leaves me with are far better than any alternative out there. The teams are amazing at helping me in my development to achieve my personal and professional goals. There is not a bad word to say!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
Be your most authentic self, show confidence and enthusiasm. Don't go into a call with a strategy as they want to see who you really are, just take things as they come. Understand and have pre-organised some examples of teamwork, determination, accolades and goals to bring to an interview/ assessment centre so you can have prepared and ease the nerves as much as possible, helping you to be you!
