4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day-to-day site duties include: setting out, ordering low cost materials, creating as-builts, supervising operatives, setting heights on laser level, using AutoCAD, attending site management meetings etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme is very rewarding, as progress is evident with the increased understanding of day-to-day activities. There is a lot of variety in the work at Bentleys, meaning it never becomes mundane or unenjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a solid engineering base, which has developed substantially over the course of the apprenticeship. I have learned how to use various technologies, including AutoCAD, total stations, laser levels and much more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme within Bentleys is very well structured with plenty of support. However, on the colleges side, there is not much organisation in terms of timetables and room allocations.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is plenty of support given from all levels of seniority - everyone is more than happy to help or answer my questions whenever I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from the college is great within timetable hours. However, once you try to contact them outside of your college week, it is hard to get an answer back. This is especially stressful when there are dead lines in near future.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The subject matter of the qualification has given me a background understanding of why things are done the way they are in the industry, which is useful. However, nothing directly applicable to the role that I have taken back to site and used has been covered as of yet.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of emails sent out regularly with different events, clubs, webinars and much more when working at Bentleys.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JN Bentley to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JN Bentley have helped support me from a day one apprentice, not knowing much about the role or responsibilities, into a fully-competent engineer who is confident enough to do my day-to-day tasks without supervision or guidance. For this reason, why wouldn't I recommend a friend?
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JN Bentley?
Most important thing when applying for a role at JN Bentley in my opinion, is to just be yourself and everything else will fall into place. :)
