Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently going through rotations in each department of construction (3 months each). i have completed Site management, Site engineering, Quantity Surveying, Design Management, Planning and currently in the estimating department and still need to complete building services and digital engineering. my current works involves conducting take-offs measurements, management of BoQs and comparisons as well as shadowing a lot of tender meetings and adjudication meetings too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy every bit of it, opportunities are everywhere and the experience to be gained is endless. i am really grateful for this programme and to work for a supporting company like Vinci Bulding is a motivator itself. The number of people i have met along my journey that are really supportive is priceless.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have become a lot more organised in the way i work ensuring that work doesn't get forgotten and delivered to a high standard. I have become more analytical of my own work to ensure i don't rush my work and make errors that lead to bigger errors. I have been given the opportunity to present to a crowds with over 100 listeners which boost my self confidence in my speech and communication skills. i have developed leadership like skills when working on site managing a work package on my own and learning the responsibilities a site manager has on health and safety as well as delivering a project on time and at a high standard.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Its structured very well, 3 months in each department with frequent catch ups to discuss progress. there can be delays when switching departments. for example, each department is a 3 month duration but we didn't know which department we was going to into next ehich lead t working in certain departments longer until the line manager introduced us unto the next department. i think there should be reminders on each catch up meeting discussing which department we are in next and contacts who to talk to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Endless support and motivation as well as opportunities to develop your own personal skills in and out of work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
At York college we have teachers that lack in communication, not replying to emails and teams messages. makes it really difficult to carry our assignments whilst working a full time job. The trainer who comes to site or office to check up on us is really supportive. Has helped me a lot when the teachers themselves dont help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
There is a lot of knowledge to gain from the course itself which can massively boost your performance at work. just some teachers way of teaching wasn't supportive.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have social events on like a day where there is a football tournament. There are plenty of training opportunities that i have taken myself that pushed me further in my day to day tasks during site management. Plenty of social activities like food banks and fund raising for local charities to help those in need. everyone participates and they push us also strive for our best for a prize which motivates the team but help the locals around us.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vinci to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Endless opportunities, job satisfaction, endless support, everyone has common interests and goals, Vinci is international so work is beyond endless and the only limitations you have is yourself.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
Apply online but dont leave it at that, knock on different sites that might be local to where you live and push yourself for a free work experience and ask a lot of questions, engage with the team and if nothing makes sense ask, ask, ask again. You will benefit from the experience you will gain and we will benefit from your perspectives. Our guys helped me a lot even when i wasn't employed.
